Sounds of protest, the Scottish Music Centre, and Chris Watson

After the recent march against government cuts to the public sector in London, I thought it was worthwhile to host the recordings I made at the event on a dedicated page, as well as on the acoustic map. These recordings are also now hosted over at the London Sound Survey, and there’s a short LSS blog post about them here.
Following on from this, Ian Rawes from the LSS invited me to a field recording workshop at the Scottish Music Centre in Glasgow, where he was giving a presentation on sound maps. There’s a nice blog post about the event by John Johnson here, and a summary of the event by the Scottish Music Centre here. It was great to meet Ian and other sound recordists from Scotland and beyond.

After nearly two years of failed attempts, myself and some colleagues from the University of Edinburgh have managed to get world renowned sound recordist (and former member of Cabaret Voltaire) Chris Watson to come to Edinburgh. As part of his week here, there will be a free performance on April 22nd at Inspace (details and tickets here).
UPDATE:
A short article regarding part of Chris’ trip to Edinburgh is now up at the Herald online here.
