Hebdomadal sound project: June 2016

Week 26
St David’s Dewi Sant shopping centre
June 30th, 6.25pm

I find shopping centres discombobulating to be in. This week’s recording is a walk through St David’s Dewi Sant shopping centre in the centre of Cardiff; a noisy, irritating affair. Recorded binaurally, so best listened to through headphones.

Week 25
Dare Valley Country Park, Aberdare
June 21st, 2.15-3.15pm

This week’s recording is a composite of various recordings following gullies draining into the Dare River in the Dare Valley Country Park, Aberdare. Starting off at a small trickle, the recording ends on the banks of the Dare where the river crashes over boulders; at this point you can hear a pair of grey wagtails calling to each other as they find food for a juvenile.

Week 24
Llandaff weir, River Taff
June 15th, 5.40pm

This week’s recording was made on a wet, overcast day, on the east bank of the River Taff, near the Llandaff weir. Listen out for the chimes of a rather hopeful icecream truck.

Week 23
Tennis courts, Heath Park
June 7th, 8.25pm

With the onset of summer, there’s been an increase in activity across Cardiff’s various parks. Adjacent to a small area of woodland in Heath Park (the setting for the recording in week 18) are a small pitch and putt golf course and a couple of tennis courts, which are now in good use. The following recording was made standing near to one of the tennis courts at the edge of the woodland; you can also hear some people playing football in the distance.
