Holy Watergate soundwalk, September 2008
We* became aware of an existing tour of the city designed by the Glasgow-based artist Chris Dooks. The tour, entitled ‘Polyfaith;,
zigzags the city with maps and downloadable mp3 files of instructions
and stories. Through 10 stops, each one centering on a different faith,
it tells the tale from birth to death of the physics teacher Erica
Tetralix.
We decided to take the tour and record what we saw and heard through photographs, written notes and sound recordings. In to this mix we spliced edited sections of the original mp3 files, and added music and speech in response to what we had discovered on the tour.
As it stands, then, Holy Watergate is an audio presentation of a pre-existing tour. While it is site specific, it does make sense away from the site.
