The Pentland Hills: An Audio Portrait, Radiophrenia, Glasgow, April 2015
“Radiophrenia is a temporary art radio station – a week-long exploration into current trends in sound and transmission arts. Broadcasting live from Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts, the station aims to promote radio as an art form, encouraging challenging and radical new approaches to the medium. The broadcast schedule will include live shows, pre-recorded features and a daily series of ‘live-to-air’ performances. The majority of the programme will be made up from selections submitted to an international open call for sound and radio works.”

For Radiophrenia I submitted a piece entitled The Pentland Hills: An Audio Portrait. My blurb:
‘The Pentland Hills: An Audio Portrait’ is a 20 minute soundscape piece that documents the landscapes of the Pentland Hills between September 2013 and April 2014. The piece takes a listener on a non-narrated audio journey through the Hills, starting from the interior of the Regional Park and concluding at the A720 Edinburgh Bypass. On the journey, we encounter pine trees creaking in the wind, geese flying south for the winter, tides on Bonaly reservoir, overhead power lines buzzing with electrical charge, and walkers discussing their health regimes.
The piece was transmitted at 4pm on the 18th April 2015.
